Meet the team

SIMON FLEISHER

Simon Fleisher is the CEO of Wellington Cable Car Ltd (WCCL) and has held this post since October 2013. He is a Chartered Engineer and Engineering Project Manager by background and previously worked for Energy for Industry (now owned by Pioneer Generation) and Meridian Energy. Although he originally graduated with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bristol University, he served 16 years in the Royal Navy and 4 years in the Royal New Zealand Navy as a Marine Engineering Officer, having immigrated to New Zealand in February 2008. Before moving to Wellington with his family, he claims to have lived in the quaint, rustic seaside town of Portsmouth, Hampshire although he is a lifelong avid Tottenham Hotspur supporter.

He manages to keep his engineering dreams alive by taking an active interest in the more challenging technical problems that arise from operating and maintaining iconic but elderly transport infrastructures, such as Wellington’s Trolley Bus overhead network and the Cable Car. He was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 2011 and also serves on the national executive committees of the IPENZ Mechanical Engineering Group and the Aotearoa Wave and Tidal Energy Association. 

ANDREW CRESSWELL

After years slaving away in big firms, Andrew decided to take a break and started working at Wellington Cable Car Ltd, providing management support and leadership to the Cable Car Traction Services team. Andrew has lived in Wellington since 1979 and has worked in the electrical sector since 1984. He is a registered Line Mechanic and Electrical Service Technician; skills which have proven invaluable within his current role. He has been managing the upkeep of the overhead network for the Wellington Trolley buses since 2002 and is very passionate about running a safe network. 

MATTHEW HARDY

Matthew is the Passenger Services Manager at the Cable Car and has been with the company since 2007. Previously he held management and supervisory positions at Tranzit, Hertz and Go-Ahead London and has been in the transport industry for 30 years.

GAVIN MACINTYRE

Gavin has been gainfully employed with Cable Car maintenance since 1985 and took on the Engineering Manager’s position in July 2002.

His wife is jealous of all the attention that the Cable Car gets, even after nearly two decades and two children. His motto is “I’m always on call but manage to get a day off from time to time to go motorcycling and enjoy the outdoors.”

BRUCE JENSEN

Bruce is Wellington born and bred and acts as the Chief Financial Officer at Wellington Cable Car, leading the small but efficient finance team as well as having a wider involvement in the information technology area of the business and legal matters.

Bruce has been with Wellington Cable Car since 2010 whilst still operating and managing a Chartered Accountancy firm in Lower Hutt. For his sins, Bruce has been in the accountancy/tax field for over 17 years having previously worked at Deloitte for 12 years specialising in Corporate Tax. Prior to this he studied at Victoria University where he completed both a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration and a law degree.

Bruce also has a passion for information technology having worked in the industry previously and also likes to tinker with new products and technologies, and also computer games when time permits!

DAPHNE SQUIRE

Daphne manages the day to day office routines at WCCL. In addition to putting in motion administrative requests as they arise, she manages Simon and Andrew office requests, and is an essential cog in the well-oiled WCCL machine. She has been employed in the area of administration for a number of years with experience in the hospitality industry, small business and education sector in roles from PA to Customer Service. Working for Wellington Cable Car Ltd has opened up a new world to methods of public transport.
