We are teaming up with Wētā Workshop to celebrate International Hobbit Day on Sunday, 22 September.
To mark the occasion, we are calling for humans to dress as Hobbits to join the fun and free activities!
Wētā Workshop will be sending a wizard to ride the Cable Car from 10am – 12pm searching high and low for Hobbits. During this time, Hobbits will not only ride for free but be able to indulge in a ‘second breakfast’ at Kelburn terminal.
Other Hobbit Day activities include face painting, quizzes, spot prizes and a chance to get hands-on with props - including Hobbit feet!
To be eligible for the free adventure up the hill, Hobbits must be wearing shoes when riding the Cable Car. Conditions apply here.
Walk in Paddy’s paw-steps and explore Pōneke with us these school holidays! The Cable Car is proud to join our friends at Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington as we bring you a paw-some adventure following Wellington’s legendary Airedale Terrier, Paddy the Wanderer.
Pick up your Paddy Passport from any participating site and collect stamps from the Wellington Museum, Cable Car Museum, the Cable Car terminal, and Space Place for a chance to win an exciting prize!
The competition runs from Saturday 28 September – Sunday 13 October.
Paddy wasn’t just any dog-he was a 1930's icon, loved by Wellington’s waterfront community. He even earned the title 'Assistant Night Watchman in Charge of Pirates, Rodents, and Smugglers.' Learn more about Paddy's Incredible story here.
To celebrate the twenty-year anniversary of the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Wētā Workshop has delved into the archives and dusted off some of their most precious props, costumes, and armour from the original films.
Take yourself on a journey through Middle-Earth, Wellington to find some of the iconic pieces starting with our third-aged elf and Royal Guard of Rohan located in the Kelburn terminal.
