Group Visits
Take a trip through time on the Wellington Cable Car.
Discover the city’s heritage on this iconic Wellington landmark as you travel from Lambton Quay to Kelburn through tunnels and bridges that were constructed over 120 years ago, taking in our amazing light show along the way. Once at Kelburn, enjoy the gorgeous views of Wellington and the harbour, Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
This is the perfect connection to the Cable Car Museum, Space Place, Zealandia or for a beautiful downhill walk through the botanical gardens.
The Cable Car can carry 30 people seated plus standing room. We are happy to run additional trips for larger groups.
The Cable Car departs every 10 minutes. For self-guided journeys you may ride at your leisure.
We are happy to accommodate self-guided groups at any time. For guided tours, 9am-3pm on weekdays are recommended. Alternative timings may be available upon request.

Group Bookings
There is nothing better than experiencing the Cable Car in a large group with friends, family or with new people who have a common interest.
Although you can show up on the day, we prefer to receive bookings for large groups of 10 people and above, so we can confirm dates, manage any potential overcrowding and notify you in the unlikely event there is an operational problem with the Cable Car on the day.

Explore the engineering that makes it all happen with our 45-minute tour, during which you will experience:
- A ride up on the Cable Car with a Cable Car guide.
- Stop at Talavera Station to observe and discuss how the track and cable work.
- A visit to the current winding room at the top of the hill.

School guided tour – from $8.50 per person, including a return Cable Car journey.
Travel must be for educational purposes as part of an approved school group visit. Final pricing may vary on group size and specific requirements. All school group visits must be booked in advance, subject to availability. A single transaction must be made for the entire group. All members of New Zealand school groups, including teachers and caregivers, travel at our school rate.
